Schlaf

A first-person narrator travels through the physical, mythological, and political aspects of sleep in three chapters. She discovers the word "enlightenment" in the dark gray night sky over Tokyo, describes the rather creepy infatuation of the moon goddess Selene with the eternally sleeping shepherd Endymion, and quotes CIA papers on the torture method of sleep deprivation. She also analyzes the uselessness of sleep in terms of value production. For sleep, as a mystical companion that has always walked alongside humans and forces them into a horizontal position night after night, eludes the logic of 24/7.
