Product details

The Baltic Sea is the most navigated sea in the world, and even though it is referred to as the "little sister" of the North Sea, conditions can be rough here. Storms, ice, human or technical failures have led to countless maritime disasters. Thomas Förster, one of the leading underwater archaeologists in the country, has participated in expeditions worldwide for many years. This book focuses on the islands of Rügen and Hiddensee, off the coasts of which lie "wreck-rich waters" where many sailors met their demise. Using the methods of underwater archaeology as well as traditional historical research, wrecks from the Hanseatic period to the present day are described, many of which were discovered during the construction of the Baltic Sea pipeline or targeted diving expeditions.
