Pictures with legends

Renée Schwarzenbach-Wille (1883-1959) began photographing at the age of fourteen and took her last picture six months before her death. Her more than ten thousand photographs initially represent a photographic family history, centered around her friend, her husband, and her children, particularly her daughter Annemarie. However, in these images, we also discover individual life paths from birth through illness and physical decline to death, from the first visit to the disappearance from the life of the observing photographer. The photographs reflect the diverse musical and sporting interests of the photographer, as well as her fateful political worldview. They document the radically personal views of a woman whose restless photographic eye was always in search of new images. The volume is the result of this.
