Le tremblement des certitudes

"Le tremblement des certitudes" is an impressive non-fiction book that explores Silvie Defraoui's artistic engagement with the fundamental uncertainty of the present. The artist, born in 1935, has created a multitude of works across various media such as video, painting, neon, and photography since 1994. This book showcases about forty of her works, some of which were newly created specifically for her significant solo exhibition at the MCBA in Lausanne in spring 2023. The publication not only provides insight into Defraoui's artistic development but also documents the metamorphosis of her platform "Archives du Futur," which she founded in 1975 with her late partner Chérif. An essay by Laurence Schmidlin complements the works and offers a new perspective on Defraoui's artistic ideas and concepts.
