Abstract: Ethnologists and anthropologists agree in their studies today that in many parts of the postmodern world there is a close connection between religion or religious systems and political processes. Specific religious contents and traditions are used especially in multi-ethnic areas as a means of inter-ethnic demarcation or even for the construction of formally non-existent ethnic groups and thus often serve a certain ethno-nationalism. In the autonomous Russian republic of Yakutia (Sakha), too, there has been a clear revitalization of nationalism since the early 1990s.
