Sheep belong to Schleswig-Holstein like the wind and the sea. They stand peacefully on the dikes, look at the tourists cycling by and call out "Määäh!" after them. But sheep are not just a pretty photo motif. They are interwoven in many ways with the lives of the people in the north. After long, thorough research with shepherds' families and a shearer, with a cheese master and wool spinners, with dyke builders, folklorists and an archaeologist, and after many visits to stables and dykes, Ulrike Krickau has taken off her rubber boots again and recorded the stories together with a lot of exciting information about sheep and their people in texts and pictures.
