Sarah Kirsch is considered one of the most significant German-speaking female poets. Since she emerged with her poetry in the 1960s, she has captured the attention of readers and critics alike. Marcel Reich-Ranicki praised her as the "younger sister of Droste." The interest of readers has remained undiminished since her death in 2013 – a clear indication that Sarah Kirsch can now be regarded as a modern classic.

This anthology invites readers to revisit and rediscover her work: from the celebrated "Sarah sound" (Peter Hacks) of her early poetry to the mature reflections on the world and self, the "time announcements from the North, wonderful meditations on permanence and transience" (NZZ).

Compiled in 2005 under the supervision and collaboration of the poet herself, not all of her poems were included at her explicit request. As this edition is merely a reissue, the late works of Sarah Kirsch created after 2005 are not included.
