A man lives in complete solitude in a deserted mountain village. However, at night, always at the same hour, a small light on the opposite side of the valley disturbs his isolation. He begins to question the origin of the mysterious light. Is it someone in another deserted village? A forgotten street lamp? A strange being? He scours the surrounding area, investigating the few people in remote, sparsely populated places. But nobody claims to know or have heard anything about people beyond the gorge. Driven by a growing restlessness, he travels to the other side of the gorge to discover the source of the light. He finds a little boy who also lives alone in a house in the middle of the forest. But who is this child who runs the household alone and even attends evening school? The villagers rule out the existence of such a school. One evening, the man stands guard outside the house and recognises the child, who is going out with other children, all carrying large and small rucksacks. When the boy returns home, he confronts him and gets an unbelievable confession.
