Saar-Radweg

On the high plateau of Lorraine, the family-friendly and gently sloping cycling tour begins along the Saar River. The approximately 210-kilometer cross-border cycle path takes you from Sarrebourg through a gently rolling landscape of forests and meadows dotted with villages and towns that exude French charm, leading into the urban environment of Saarbrücken. One of the most spectacular destinations on this cycling journey is the wooded and narrow valley around the Saarschleife near Mettlach – the most photographed motif in Saarland. Afterwards, the landscape opens up, and you enter the mild climate of the Moselle wine region. The urban atmosphere in Saarbrücken or Trier is pleasantly interrupted by the rural idyll of the "Merziger Äppelkischd," and a glass of wine or apple cider tastes especially good after an eventful day.

A 90-kilometer travel variant starting in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Strasbourg allows you to extend this charming cycling trip to a total of 300 kilometers. The route runs along the Rhine-Marne Canal cycle path through picturesque landscapes and past numerous locks to the source area of the Saar.
