The standard work, which has been introduced over 20 years ago, is now published in its 6th edition, expanded and updated. After the death of the internationally renowned fashion and costume researcher Ingrid Loschek, the fashion and cultural historian Gundula Wolter thoroughly reviewed and updated the volume. In the first part of the volume, which provides a compact overview of the history of clothing and fashion from its beginnings to the 21st century, new research findings have been incorporated in all parts, and the sections on the 20th and 21st centuries have been rewritten. In the second part with the key words from evening dress to top hat, current research results are also taken into account and new terms such as basics, hipsters, label and jump are included. The third part about the fashion designers and fashion labels has been rewritten and corresponds in its presentation to the current view of the development of fashion history. He offers curricula vitae with work development, followed by style and creations, perfume and exhibitions.
