The petite justice of the U.S. Supreme Court was a moral compass and a feminist icon for millennials—admired, and sometimes feared for her razor-sharp intellect, her wit, and her fighting spirit. Throughout her life, she fought tirelessly for justice. At the age of 87, she succumbed to cancer on September 18, 2020, in Washington. However, her message resonates on. "I dissent." These words made her famous. In 1956, RBG, as many call her today, began her law studies at the elite Harvard University—one of only nine women among 500 men. She became one of the first female law professors in the U.S. and fought against all odds in the 1970s for groundbreaking court rulings on gender equality. In 1993, President Clinton appointed her to the Supreme Court, making her the second woman ever to serve on the highest court in the United States.
