Rüstung auf dem Prüfstand

The large rockets from Peenemünde were originally developed in Kummersdorf, south of Berlin. Since 1875, it had been the largest German testing center for new weapons, a crossroads of politics, science, industry, and the military. Before moving to Peenemünde in 1937, engineers developed the first engines for liquid rockets there. The project was part of the German armament system, which was pushed to extremes during World War II. Here, the weapons for total war were created.

The accompanying volume to the special exhibition at the Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde documents the nearly forgotten history of Kummersdorf. With numerous historical and contemporary photos, it showcases the work locations of that time and the preserved artifacts from the tests in Kummersdorf and Peenemünde, placing them in their historical context.
