Rügen - Ein Wanderführer

Germany's largest island is considered by many to be its most beautiful. With its diverse landscapes, it is perfect for exploration on foot. Walking allows you to fully appreciate the scenery and the climate, a blend of forest and sea air. Nowhere along the German coasts is there such a mingling of land and water; from any point on the island, the nearest body of water is no more than six kilometers away. Wild, rugged chalk cliffs alternate with yellow clay shores and kilometers of sandbars. Five peninsulas and 31 smaller islands, separated by numerous bays and inlets, surround the main island like a group of children around their mother. This hiking guide includes nineteen circular routes and six linear trails. The circular routes can also start from points other than the recommended ones. The descriptions of the tours are intentionally very detailed and precise: the Rügen and Hiddensee hiking area is vast. In all tour descriptions, the signs and markers along the way are accurately quoted (often in excerpts) (e.g., "Wayfinding Bobbin"). The tour sketches provided for each route are based on the hiking map "Rügen and Hiddensee" (scale 1:50,000) or the cycling map "Rügen and Hiddensee" (scale 1:75,000) published by Grünes Herz. In addition to the route descriptions, each tour includes background information on locations, attractions, facilities, and more, as well as tips for route variations and detours.
