Bahn-Plan 2050

The Bahn 2000 concept, which was approved by the electorate in 1987, is a major renewal project for the Swiss railway system. This book, written by a collective of recognized specialists, sets forth a new, ambitious goal: Switzerland should finally be integrated into the European high-speed rail network. A vision for the future proposes three stages to realize the railway network of tomorrow: The first stage, Takt, completes the implementation of the integrated hourly timetable. The second stage, Frequenz, introduces a quarter-hourly service on all particularly busy sections, with a focus on the new lines between Geneva-Lausanne and Olten-Zurich. The third stage, Tempo, encompasses the complete expansion of the West-East and North-South axes for high-speed traffic. In the Bahn Plan 2050, these three stage goals are combined into a comprehensive vision.
