Product details

Retention is the phase of orthodontic treatment that maintains the teeth in their orthodontically corrected position after the active orthodontic tooth movement has ended. Orthodontic retainers resist the tendency of the teeth to return to their pre-treatment position under the influence of periodontal, occlusal, and soft tissue forces, as well as ongoing dentofacial growth. Very few prospective controlled studies have evaluated the effectiveness of retention. Furthermore, very little is known about patient perception regarding orthodontic relapse. Various studies have shown that fixed retention, bonded only to canines, experiences relapse, while others have indicated that although relapse occurs, it is not significant or clinically relevant. This book summarizes every aspect of relapse and retention.
