Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator, daughter of Ptolemy XII, ascends the throne of Egypt at the age of 17. Following her father's will and ancient tradition, she does not rule alone, but together with her ten-year-old brother Ptolemy XIII, whose wife she must become. With strength of will, courage and wisdom, she wants to consolidate and expand the power of her nation, especially against the Roman Empire. But under the influence of the eunuch Potheinos and the general Achillas, her brother turns against her. A bloody battle for the crown of Egypt breaks out and Cleopatra is forced into exile. But her will to survive as a woman in a man's world remains unbroken, and so she seeks the support of a powerful Roman consul and general: Gaius Julius Caesar.
