What is supposed to come next? Judith is almost fifty, and unfortunately, she can’t think of a satisfactory answer to this question. The children are grown, her husband has aged, and so has life. Not to mention love and connective tissue. Then her mother dies, and Judith returns to her old hometown after twenty years, where she left behind a well-kept secret, an empty grave, and a pile of hopes, dreams, and nightmares. Suddenly, everything falls apart. A lifelong lie turns out to be the truth. A rediscovered friend hopes to experience one more summer and wants to finally know what really happened back then. A youthful love sparkles with promise, an urn takes detours, and Judith realizes that it’s better to rejoice too early than not at all.
