Hiking by the water has its own unique charm. Bubbling pools invite you to take a dip on hot summer days. In seemingly unfathomable mountain lakes, rocky peaks are reflected. A foaming mountain stream roars through the narrow rock gorge of a ravine like a hissing monster, hinting at the power of water. The hiking region of Allgäu, along with the adjacent Tannheim Valley and Kleinwalsertal, offers as diverse an experience as the water itself.

The Rother hiking book "Hiking by the Water – Allgäu" presents 42 routes to beautifully situated mountain lakes, wild and romantic gorge landscapes, and idyllic stream valleys between Füssen and Oberstaufen. Well-known gorges like Breitach and Starzlachklamm, as well as popular lakes such as the Seealpsee above Oberstdorf or the Alpsee near Immenstadt, are described alongside hidden ravines and tranquil mountain lakes off the main paths. Longer circular routes lead into alpine landscapes to turquoise-blue lakes nestled beneath rugged mountain peaks. Many of the destinations can be reached via easy hikes, making them enjoyable for the whole family.

For each hike, there are tips on places to eat and swim along the way, as well as suggestions for summit detours. Natural history and historical information about the hiking destinations, along with tips for children, complement the detailed route descriptions. Brief information, detailed hiking maps with marked routes, and informative elevation profiles provide an overview of the featured hikes. Additionally, GPS data is available for download. And last but not least, the images inspire you to dive into the cool waters.
