Product details

The decade began with Rosa v. Praunheim's film "Not the homosexual is perverted". It ended with "Homolulu", a political festival full of high-flying hopes in Frankfurt, and a political scandal in Bonn: before the Bundestag elections, the parties took part in a discussion with gays and lesbians - but the "fundies" spoilt the success of the "realos" and blew up the event. The second volume on the history of homosexuals in Germany visualises an action-packed decade of the West German gay movement: it fought for the liberation of sexuality in a liberated society, for a new, solidary coexistence and provoked the "bourgeois public". While the political radicalism of this awakening is viewed rather critically in times of a gay movement orientated towards civil rights, the connections between the legacy of the "movement sisters" and today's progressive approaches are explored and reassessed from the perspective of queer politics.
