Even more stories from the port city of Rorschach and the region around the eastern Lake Constance have much to tell. Following the successful first volume of "Stories from the Port City" (now in its fourth edition), Otmar Elsener expands his focus beyond the city in the second volume. He reports on marble saws and rope factories along the Goldach River, a memorial for a wealthy murder victim on Rorschacherberg, the daring escape of a Russian soldier across the lake, and the emergency surgery of an American pilot at the Rorschach hospital. Of course, it also covers less spectacular but equally fascinating topics such as fairground rides, giant sequoias, bicycle races, books of the dead, dinosaur visions, and peculiar street names. Otmar Elsener has interviewed many eyewitnesses and seems to have researched throughout his life. Due to its attention to detail and literary quality, this is a remarkable work.
