Author's Text
Born on March 13, 1922, in Lowell, Massachusetts, he attended Columbia University. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marine, later hitchhiking for years as a laborer across the USA and Mexico, becoming a leading author of the Beat Generation alongside William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg. He died on October 21, 1969, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
