Roman Dmowski (1864–1939) is still regarded as the most significant theorist and "father" of Polish nationalism. With the rise to power of the "Law and Justice" (PiS) party, his ideas have once again become the center of controversy. This volume presents Dmowski's most important works for the first time in German translation and includes commentary. The "National Democratic Party," founded by Dmowski in 1897, had a significant influence on shaping Poland's political landscape after 1918. Its ideology continued to have an impact even after World War II and has experienced a resurgence since 1989, which has intensified in recent years. The selection of texts includes Dmowski's ideological main work, "Thoughts of a Modern Pole" from 1903, as well as "Germany, Russia, and the Polish Question" from 1908, in which Dmowski elaborated on his geopolitical concept. From the writings after the end of World War I, the text "Church, Nation, and State" clarifies his views on the role of the Catholic Church in the Polish nation. The essay "Hitlerism as a National Movement" (1932) sheds light on Dmowski's perspective on Germany and his antisemitism. The source texts are accompanied by explanations, and the volume includes a detailed introduction.
