The social democrat Robert Grimm (1881-1958) can be described as the most interesting and significant Swiss politician of the 20th century. Throughout his career, he held almost all the offices that one could be elected to at the municipal, cantonal, and federal levels. As a young workers' secretary, he published a fundamental brochure on the political general strike in 1906 and led the strike committee during the nationwide strike in 1918. As an official of the International, he interacted with the great figures of European socialism. He left behind an exceptionally broad body of journalistic work, ranging from historical studies to contemporary polemics, which is still worth reading today.
