The apolitical microbiologist Leo Schneider is forced by his superiors to shift his research towards the defense against biological weapons. Schneider quickly learns that defense research is not so different from the development of biological weapons, with deadly consequences for him. After Schneider accidentally develops the biological weapon Ricin 51 during his research, he and those around him increasingly find themselves in the crosshairs of ruthless corporations, terrorists, and intelligence agencies, all of whom are willing to go to great lengths for this discovery.
