Product details
Ruth Rogers was born in 1948 in the United States. She studied design before opening the River Café on the banks of the Thames in London in 1987, together with Rose Gray. Since then, she has exclusively cooked Italian dishes for her guests, using high-quality, market-fresh ingredients. In their restaurant, the two head chefs trained a number of successful chefs, including Jamie Oliver, April Bloomfield, and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. In 1995, the River Café Cookbook was published, the first of six cookbooks authored by her. Since 1998, the River Café has held a Michelin star. Ruth Rogers has been running the restaurant alone since the death of Rose Gray in 2010. She has been married to architect Richard Rogers since 1973.
Rose Gray was born in 1939 in Bedford, England. She studied art at the Guildford College of Art. Her career as a chef began in 1985 at the Italian restaurant Nell's Club in Manhattan. In 1962, she married Michael Selby Gray, with whom she had three children. In 2004, she entered her second marriage with David Robin MacIlwaine. In 2001, Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer. Ten years later, she succumbed to the disease. Shortly after her death, she and her business partner Ruth Rogers were awarded the Order of the British Empire.
