Plant diseases have a significant impact on the Indian economy. In many countries, crop losses due to diseases have led to famines or similar conditions. Among all diseases, Fusarium wilt is one of the most important diseases affecting castor plants and is widely spread in the major castor-growing regions of India. The pathogen causing Fusarium wilt in castor is Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ricini. Marker-assisted selection allows for rapid and reliable analysis of susceptibility, making it unnecessary to obtain virulent pathogen isolates. It is more efficient than selection based on phenotypes.
