"Anyone who believes that heart patients have become healthier and more health-conscious in the last decade despite extensive and demanding drug therapy is subject to a massive deception. The opposite is the case: With the exception of cholesterol levels, the cardiovascular risk profile (cigarette consumption, overweight, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus) of the European population has deteriorated so massively within twelve years that one would actually like to speak of a 'declaration of bankruptcy' of secondary prevention. The experts are correspondingly disappointed by the presentation of the results of EUROASPIRE III at the European Congress of Cardiologists in Vienna. (German Medical Journal 104/57 2007, p. C21130).
