Richelieu

The often controversially assessed cardinal and statesman Richelieu has profoundly shaped the history of France and left deep marks on the history of Europe long after his death. The author addresses the life and actions of the man, theologian, and statesman in both positive and critical aspects. A significant portion of the work is dedicated to the foreign policy actions of "Principal Minister" Richelieu during the phase of "open war" from 1635 to 1642.
