Rhone Glacier

The first photos I took of the Rhône Glacier were in July 2014. I remember climbing up the mountain slope beside the glacier to get a better view. Up there, I encountered a couple of mountaineers. We exchanged a few words, probably prompted by their Basel dialect. In any case, I mentioned that back then, many more people had come to see the covered cherry trees in Riehen near Basel. They had seen the trees as well. However, I immediately noticed that they found the comparison inappropriate. At that time, the covered glacier looked quite impressive. The cloths were already white and tightly stretched, and the ice beneath had volume. The covered part of the glacier clearly towered over the rest of the front glacier tongue. The purpose of the cloths was to protect the ice and the glacier grotto underneath.
