Stanislau around 1900: a Galician small town on the edge of the monarchy. Adelja and Stefa, intertwined like the branches of two trees, supporting each other while also suffocating one another, grow up together. When Adelja marries the stonemason Petro, their close entanglement becomes a triangle from which Stefa desperately tries to free herself.
