Tenancy law is a complex and significant area in legal practice. Every (natural or legal) person eventually encounters tenancy law and its peculiarities in their professional or private life. The Swiss Code of Obligations (OR) and the Tenancy Law Act (VMWG) contain numerous mandatory protective provisions in favor of tenants for the rental of residential and commercial spaces—unlike most other types of contracts, which are predominantly dispositive. This review course aims to provide a manageable yet comprehensive overview of the relevant norms and relationships in tenancy law through the use of graphics, examples, and exercises. Particular emphasis is placed on covering the (lawyer) examination material and current case law as completely as possible while incorporating practical elements.
