Religiöse Erziehung und kindliche Höflichkeit

Since the Middle Ages, the education of the Western individual has been closely linked to the Christian religion, with increasing intensity. Its guiding principle, the strict medieval regulations, confirmed in a Manichean way what constitutes sin and what does not. The emergence of modernity as a result of the decadent medieval system and the consolidation of capitalism signified not only a change in the political-economic system but also affected the structural model, which was to be occupied by a new class, the bourgeoisie. The fractures in this transition led to the loss of frameworks for behavior and presented society with unusual problems. The aim of this study is to understand the dynamics of the blending with the Christian-religious conception of sin in the 19th century and its influence on the construction of morality in Brazil, which is essential for understanding the formation of the modern individual and the creation of their identity. Through the analysis of educational manuals and a bibliographic investigation, this research will examine which social influences, in what significance and intensity, have favored and ultimately shaped the modern concept of sin and adherence, right and wrong, moral and immoral.
