Product details
The land is vast, but not "flat," as the indigenous people would say in Mönsterländer Platt. The beautiful park landscape of the Münsterland consists of rivers and fields, meadows and patches of forest. Nestled within the landscape are moated castles, palaces, churches, monasteries, farms, and riding stables.
In Westphalia, one can hike as far as the feet can carry or cycle until exhaustion. For horse lovers, the Münsterland is not a hidden gem but a well-established destination. A must-see are the Dülmen wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch and the annual "wild horse capture" that takes place at the end of May.
The "cultural capital" of the Münsterland is Münster, the most bike-friendly city in the country, charmingly located in the Westphalian Bay. Here, Westphalian coziness meets vibrant student life. Surrounding the historic core is the promenade, a green belt. The university, churches, museums, courtyards, and not to forget the harbor district with Hawerkamp (where the art, culture, and music scene gathers) make Münster an extremely diverse and lively city.
For those who wish to explore the Münsterland individually, this current travel guide provides detailed information. Each chapter begins with a double page that presents the contents along with an overview map of the region, highlights, and page references. Color-coded page number boxes corresponding to the chapters facilitate orientation. The extended preface includes overview pages with descriptions of all regions, a yearly overview of festivals and events, route suggestions, and personal top tips from the authors. Naturally, the travel guide contains tried-and-true practical tips on travel questions from A-Z, a detailed introduction to the city of Münster including a local map, and selected addresses for connoisseurs.
