Product details

The debate about freedom of speech and its limits is lively and sometimes very emotional. Should one take a stand against the statements of a gender-critical philosopher who is suspected of being transphobic? Is it permissible to invite political agitators to a course? Should a renowned professor be disinvited from a conference if he has signed a conspiracy theory appeal? The author attempts to free these debates from ideologisation and to show how such questions can be answered soberly and without prejudice. In doing so, he develops criteria that make it possible to decide in individual cases whether a restriction of speech is legitimate. He distinguishes between different forms of restrictions on speech and different forms of harm that should be prevented by such a restriction. In this way, arguments rather than ideologies can be put forward to determine the limits of freedom of speech in science.
