Product details
The "Schachnovelle" is Stefan Zweig's last work. He had four copies made by his wife Lotte and sent them to various publishers before they both committed suicide together in 1942 in Petropolis, Brazil. After the war the story became a classic. The editor Klemens Renoldner of the Stefan Zweig Centre in Salzburg compared the three surviving typescripts and thus created a reliable text for the first time. A precise line commentary and an informed epilogue make this important document adequately accessible.
