Ein Volksfeind

An Enemy of the People - this refers to the spa doctor Tomas Stockmann, who discovers that the water in the town where he practices is contaminated. In his bitter struggle against all those who profit financially from the spa business, he must realize that not only the land of his community but also the conscience of its representatives is tainted. Premiering in 1883, this socially critical drama remains highly relevant today.

Henrik Ibsen, born in 1828 in Skien, is arguably the most important and famous Scandinavian playwright. After training as a pharmacist and working as a dramaturg, he dedicated himself entirely to the theater from 1854 onwards. He died in 1906 in Oslo.
