"There are way too many of them; I can't get through."

"You're crazy."

"Come out now," he heard them call.

"Don't be afraid," said the rat. "They are waiting for you. Nothing will happen to you."

He stared up at her in disbelief. They were out in the ocean, at sea, miles away from the nearest shore. If he jumped overboard here, he would die. If they catch me and take me back home, I will die too, he thought. Just a little slower.

"Now," hissed the rat. Then he took off running.
