Raumwunder

The landscape paintings by Aelbert Cuyp, Jan van Goyen and Pieter de Molijn show the vastness of the flat land and the misty and rain-damp atmosphere of the deep, cloud-covered sky in toned-down colours. Not only the subjects are new, but also the new realism, the infinite space as well as the special painting technique, the glazes and pigments. This naturally arouses the interest of various disciplines of knowledge: results of technical analyses of the painting material, meteorological determinations of the cloud structures and mathematical calculations of a nature-immanent fractal to proliferating cloud and vegetation forms are documented in "Raumwunder". In collaboration with natural sciences, art analysis succeeds in breaking new ground.
