Product details

Radio, as a crucial form of communication in the 20th century, is currently undergoing fundamental reorganization processes under the banner of digitization. Considering it through the older term of radiophony, these processes unleash conceptual possibilities that extend far beyond the economization of production and broadcasting forms. Radiophony, as a cultural technique, integrates the distinction between musical sound events and effects and sounds into a new concept of sound art. The exhibition "Radiophonic Spaces" and the conference "Radiophonic Cultures - Sonic Environments and Archives in Hybrid Media Systems," along with the accompanying publication in two volumes, address these themes. Volume 1, "Radiophonic Cultures (Texts)," reflects the current state of the discussion around radiophony, its history, and potential future, in line with the questions focused on during the conference. Volume 2, "Radiophonic Materials (Documents)," gathers essential texts from the history of radiophony that have hardly been received, especially in the German-speaking world.
