Product details

A fascinating portrait of one of the most charismatic figures in the history of the Russian revolution
Karl Bernhardovich Radek is one of the most colourful figures in Soviet history. A revolutionary, journalist and politician himself, he was one of the leading leftists in Polish and German social democracy. As an émigré in Switzerland and during the years of the October Revolution, he was a companion of Lenin. He embodied the pathos and tragedy of liberal socialism, came into conflict with the Stalinist apparatus and became a victim of the Moscow show trials in 1937.

Stefan Heym's captivating portrait of Karl Radek is his swan song to the idea of the communist world revolution. First published by C.Bertelsmann in 1995, the novel is now finally available again as a Penguin paperback.
