Depending on the region, lateral entry, lateral entry, helping hands, but also profile-supplementing staff, assistants, helpers or substitutes are the policy response to the ongoing shortage of skilled labour in daycare centres. Daycare centres everywhere are therefore increasingly being called upon to compensate for the structural deficit with non-specialist staff. However, as lateral entrants are not trained educational specialists, the management and teams, but also the lateral entrants themselves, are faced with the great challenge of seeing themselves as mutually enriching despite the heterogeneity of their respective professional training.
