Max Quercher, ex-LKA officer, and his former colleague Arzu accidentally witness the sailboat of the hated building contractor Alois Rattlberger explode - both he and his wife are killed. The police assume it was an accident. Quercher's former teacher Fritzi Huttinger disagrees: she believes it was murder and asks her former student to investigate discreetly - a little later she dies in a bicycle accident. LKA police officer Judith Goldberg discovers connections of the dead building contractor to the Bavarian state chancellery and to Russia - then her lover is murdered in her apartment. When Quercher discovers that a wealthy oligarch is laundering money in the valley, the two investigators team up.
