Quedlinburg

Picturesquely situated in the Harz Mountains, the half-timbered town of Quedlinburg looks back on more than a thousand years of history. Perched on a steep sandstone cliff on the edge of the town on the Bode River, the castle and collegiate church are striking witnesses to a great past. Because the old town was spared from medieval city fires and later from the bombardments of the Second World War, it is considered a model city and was included in UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 1994.
