Author's Note
Stefan Ulrich was born in 1963 in Starnberg. In August 2005, he moved from Munich to Rome with his wife Annette and their children Franziska (eight years old) and Julius (six years old). From there, he reports as a correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung on Rome, Italy, and the Vatican.
Blurb
"You're living the good life..." is the comment from their friends when the Ulrich family finally sees their old dream of Dolce Vita in Bella Italia come true. However, life in the Eternal City proves to be anything but "sweet": the apartment is in a chaotic state upon their arrival, and daughter Bernadette's guinea pig is mistaken for a rat by the landlord. Important lessons for the Roman newcomers: a Palazzo is just a regular apartment building, Roman children's birthday parties are quite an experience, and Italians constantly complain about the weather, even in bright sunshine. Nevertheless, the Ulrichs try to make a good impression! And they still discover the sweet life in Rome.
