Brewing + Wälchli

Experimentation and invention allow architecture to progress vital within and alongside the changes in society, technology, and art. This spirit of exploration and research is distinctly present in the work of Ueli Brauen and Doris Wälchli, whether through experiments with outer shells, generous spatial penetrations, or precise placements and modeling of static elements. The architect duo acquired their skills at the EPF in Lausanne from 1982 to 1988. Prior to that, Ueli Brauen graduated as a civil engineer in Burgdorf. Since 1990, they have jointly operated their architectural office in Lausanne. They gained recognition in 1992 with an elegant yet radical single-family house featuring a finely-tuned wooden structure in Lausanne. Since then, they have completed several notable buildings in Western Switzerland, as well as the Swiss Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia. Our publication brings together these works.
