In discussions about Switzerland's role in World War II, the question of the significance of the neutral country as a marketplace for art and a hub for cultural goods occupies a central position. This study analyzes this issue using the categories of 'looted art' and 'refugee art.' In contrast to 'looted art,' 'refugee art' refers to cultural assets that were brought to Switzerland by their owners themselves. The focus is on both the owners of the assets and their intermediaries, namely dealers, museums, and collectors. Furthermore, the subsequent events are examined, showing how the Swiss authorities dealt with the processes of the years 1933 to 1945 in the immediate post-war period.
