Product details
Since Freud's concept of psychological bisexuality, it has been clear for psychoanalysis that every person possesses opposite-gender traits on both the psychological and physical levels. However, the current debate surrounding trans identity particularly challenges psychoanalytic thinking. How can deeply felt gender incongruence be understood without pathologization or premature affirmation? How can post-structuralist ideas and perspectives from queer studies be integrated into psychoanalytic theory and practice? Or are they already encompassed within Freud's concept of (repressed or rejected) bisexuality? What makes it so difficult for psychoanalysis to benefit from the gender discourse? The authors aim to find answers to these and other questions. Contributions from Klaus Grabska, Monika Gsell, Bernd Heimerl, Dagmar Herzog, Esther Hutfless, Ulrike Kadi, Jonas Lauterbach, Tamara Logemann, Anne-Sophie Metz, Eckehard Pioch, Almut Rudolf-Petersen, Udo Rauchfleisch, Ilka Schröder, Avgi Saketopoulou, Mitja Seibold, Falk Stakelbeck, and Monika Treut.
