This introductory textbook is aimed at anyone who wants to gain a clear overview of selected focal points of psychoanalysis. For the new edition, the work has been completely revised and expanded in light of many changes in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. After an overview of important current topics and the plurality of psychoanalytic directions, as well as a presentation of central psychodynamic concepts, the fundamental questions of contemporary metapsychology are discussed using a detailed example. Following this, some complex decisions in psychodynamic therapies are examined. The conclusion features an illustration of the diversity of perspectives in supervisory processes.
