Bahnhofsviertel, street prostitution, restricted areas - when we hear the word "prostitution," we also think in topographical categories. The field is an excellent subject for research in the sociology of space. Martina Löw and Renate Ruhne have studied the Frankfurt Bahnhofsviertel for years. In interviews with prostitutes and clients, residents, and social workers, they explored which emotions are associated with certain spaces and the subtle social mechanisms through which the trade is continually reconstructed as a field of the "Other," the "Abnormal.".
