Product details
Since July 2008, the revised guideline for the prophylaxis of early-onset neonatal sepsis caused by Group B Streptococcus (GBS) has been in effect. It was developed and published by the relevant professional societies. The guideline focuses on the prevention of a very dangerous infection in newborns. It is recommended that in children without clinical signs of infection from mothers with GBS colonization or unknown GBS status, a laboratory chemical examination should be conducted. The evaluation of data from 603 newborns showed that the recommendation for blood sampling poses more disadvantages than advantages for the newborn, and blood sampling as a screening should be avoided.
